a wonderful compact member of this genus, appropriately named the hyacinth orchid, 3"-4" inch bulbs topped with a single 6" keeled leathery leaf, 4" flower spikes appear from a sheath at the base of the leaf in spring, early summer, tiny brilliant hot pink flowers are densely arranged in a 3" long cylinder, giving the appearance of a hyacinth.
